ADC Challenges Appeal Court Verdict on Congresses at Supreme Court

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has approached the Supreme Court to challenge a Court of Appeal judgment that nullified the party’s ward, local government and state congresses conducted under the leadership of its caretaker committee.

The appeal follows a split decision by the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which upheld an earlier ruling of the Federal High Court restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising the congresses organised by the David Mark-led caretaker leadership.

The court also ruled that the caretaker committee lacked the constitutional authority to conduct the congresses, maintaining that such responsibility rests with the party’s elected state executive committees.

Reacting to the judgment, the ADC described the ruling as legally unsustainable and confirmed that it had already filed an appeal before the Supreme Court. The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, insisted that the judgment affects only the election of the party’s executive committees and does not invalidate the direct primaries through which its candidates for the 2027 general elections emerged.

The ADC urged its members and supporters to remain calm, expressing confidence that the Supreme Court would overturn the appellate court’s decision.

The party reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing its political activities in accordance with the Constitution and the rule of law while the legal process continues. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
