The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured residents of Abuja that his administration will continue implementing key reforms in 2025 to ensure sustained development.
In a New Year message issued on Wednesday, Wike highlighted the achievements of his office in 2024 and outlined his administration’s priorities for the year ahead. The minister reaffirmed his commitment to massive infrastructural development as a critical driver of economic growth and improved quality of life, despite criticisms of some policies, including demolitions and land reallocations.
“Dear Residents of the FCT, Happy New Year! As we enter 2025 with renewed hope and optimism, I extend my warmest wishes to you all and pray that this new year brings peace, progress, and prosperity to every household within the FCT,” Wike said.
The minister expressed gratitude for the residents’ cooperation in implementing policies and programs and commended their commitment to peaceful coexistence.
Wike highlighted key milestones from the previous year, including the construction of urban and rural roads to improve connectivity and economic activities, the rehabilitation of schools to provide a conducive learning environment, the provision of over 100 vehicles to security agencies and implementation of innovative strategies that improved safety across the FCT, the creation of the Mandate Secretariat for Youth Development and administrative reforms to enhance service delivery, and initiatives to attract local and foreign investments, particularly benefiting rural communities.
“These accomplishments demonstrate our collective effort and commitment to building a prosperous, unified, and progressive FCT,” he noted.
Looking ahead, Wike outlined his administration’s focus areas for 2025. These include continuing massive infrastructure development to improve economic growth and quality of life, enhancing healthcare, education, and agriculture to ensure access to essential services, partnering with the private sector to address public transportation challenges, expanding programs to create jobs and positively engage young people, leveraging the FCT’s tourism potential to boost economic activities, and building on previous achievements to maintain a safe and secure environment.
Wike urged residents to actively participate in the territory’s development by fulfilling their civic obligations, including paying taxes, dues, and levies, which are crucial for funding projects.
He concluded with a call for unity and support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“This administration remains steadfast in its determination to transform the FCT into one of the best capital territories in the world. Together, let us embrace 2025 with hope and determination. May this year bring us closer to realizing our collective vision for a thriving and prosperous FCT,” he said.
The minister also wished all residents a Happy New Year, expressing optimism for continued progress and unity in the FCT.
