A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has rejected claims that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is its presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, insisting that the party has already concluded its internal nomination process.

The faction stated that it has officially adopted Prof. Chris Uba as its presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 elections.

It also disowned the leadership structure associated with Atiku Abubakar, describing it as unauthorised and lacking constitutional backing to speak or act for the party.

According to the faction, the decision followed the completion of its internal processes in line with the party’s constitution and relevant electoral guidelines.

The group warned Atiku to stop presenting himself as the party’s candidate, saying such claims were misleading and capable of creating confusion within the political space.

It maintained that the ADC remains committed to contesting elections independently and will not serve as a platform for external political interests or coalition arrangements.

The faction further reaffirmed confidence in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Nigeria’s electoral framework, insisting it would pursue its political activities within the law.
