APC NWC Waives Screening Requirements for President Tinubu Ahead of Primaries

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially waived the screening requirement for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the party’s upcoming primary elections, effectively clearing him to participate without appearing before a screening committee.

The decision was taken during the party’s 188th meeting held on Wednesday, where the NWC resolved to deem President Tinubu as duly screened in line with provisions of the APC Constitution. The committee acted under Article 13.4 (xiii) and (xiv), which empowers it to organise primaries and grant waivers in special circumstances deemed to be in the best interest of the party.

In a statement issued by APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party said the resolution was informed by the overwhelming endorsements and votes of confidence President Tinubu has received from key stakeholders, including the Progressive Governors Forum, members of the National Assembly, and other organs of the party during the APC National Summit held on May 22, 2025, as well as subsequent statutory engagements.

The APC further stated that as the incumbent President and leader of the party, who had already been screened and cleared during the 2022 presidential primaries, it would be “redundant and unnecessary” to require his physical appearance before another screening panel at this stage of the process.
