Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governor announced his defection on Saturday during a stakeholders’ meeting in Bauchi, where he cited the lingering leadership crisis within the PDP and the recent Supreme Court judgment nullifying the party’s parallel conventions as major reasons for his decision.
Mohammed said extensive consultations aimed at resolving the PDP crisis failed to produce stability, prompting him and his supporters to seek a “credible and effective political platform.”
He was formally received into the APM by the party’s National Chairman, Yusuf Dantalle, alongside commissioners, advisers, and key PDP officials from Bauchi State.
The governor also declared plans to contest for a Senate seat under the APM platform in the 2027 elections, stressing that the new party is free from legal disputes capable of affecting its political activities.
Mohammed expressed appreciation to the PDP for the role it played in his political career but described the move to APM as a strategic step aimed at ensuring political continuity and electoral success.
