A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the determination of legal applications relating to his case.
The court directed that Sowore remain in custody while it considers his motion seeking a stay of the earlier order revoking his bail and issuing a bench warrant for his arrest.
The presiding judge also dismissed an application in which Sowore sought the judge’s recusal from the matter on grounds of alleged bias.
Following the ruling, the case was adjourned to a later date for further hearing on the pending applications before the court.
Sowore had earlier appeared before the court after a bench warrant was issued over his absence at a previous hearing. He arrived at the court accompanied by supporters as proceedings resumed.
The development has continued to generate reactions from political observers, supporters, and members of his political movement as legal proceedings in the matter continue.
