
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred national honours on 33 Nigerians, both living and posthumous, in recognition of their roles in the June 12 pro-democracy struggle.
The announcement was made during his Democracy Day broadcast, where he paid tribute to the awardees for their sacrifices in defending democratic governance in Nigeria. The President noted that many of them endured persecution, imprisonment, exile, and other hardships during the military era.
The honours form part of events marking the country’s Democracy Day, which commemorates the June 12, 1993 presidential election widely regarded as a landmark in Nigeria’s democratic history.
