The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested seven suspected terrorists during a series of intelligence-led operations targeting criminal networks in Bagudo Local Government Area of the state.
Authorities say the suspects are believed to be linked to the Mamudawa and Lakurawa groups operating within the Soda Forest axis.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, the arrests were made on June 5 along the Illo–Lolo Road and the Bakin Ruwa–Ka’oje corridor following credible intelligence reports.
Three suspects were intercepted while allegedly travelling to procure food supplies for armed groups hiding in the forest, while four others were arrested in a separate operation aimed at disrupting criminal activities in the area.
Police investigators are examining possible links between the suspects and a recent attack in Illo that led to the deaths of three officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). Preliminary findings suggest some of the suspects may have provided logistical support to armed groups operating in the region.
Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Hadejia, described the arrests as a significant breakthrough in the command’s ongoing efforts to combat terrorism, banditry, and other violent crimes across the state. He commended security operatives, local vigilante groups, and members of the public for their cooperation and timely intelligence.
The commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustained intelligence-driven operations and urged residents to continue providing useful information to security agencies. He assured the public that all reports would be treated confidentially.
Police said the suspects remain in custody and will be charged in court upon completion of investigations. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
