Former Kano State Governor and ex-Minister of Defence, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has dismissed widespread speculation about his political future, insisting that neither he nor his associates have taken any final decision regarding a possible realignment.

In a statement issued amid growing uncertainty surrounding the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kwankwaso said recent reports suggesting an imminent defection were misleading and premature.

He noted that the recent Supreme Court judgment affirming the legitimacy of the David Mark-led National Working Committee had also remitted the matter back to the High Court, leaving the party in what he described as a “precarious position.”

Kwankwaso further revealed that the Federal High Court had ruled against the legitimacy of the party’s recent convention, while the Attorney General of the Federation had also approached the court seeking the deregistration of the ADC.

According to him, the situation mirrors the legal and political difficulties that forced him and his supporters to leave the NNPP.

The former presidential aspirant disclosed that consultations were ongoing with major stakeholders and leaders of other political platforms, including the NDC and PRP, to determine the best path forward in protecting their democratic interests.

On speculations surrounding a possible 2027 presidential ambition, Kwankwaso said he had neither declared interest in the race nor endorsed any aspirant, stressing that the ADC had yet to zone its presidential ticket or decide on a candidate.

He recalled his participation in previous presidential contests, including the 2014 APC presidential primary where he finished second behind former President Muhammadu Buhari, and the 2019 PDP primary where he later supported Atiku Abubakar after the contest.

Kwankwaso maintained that he had always prioritised party unity and national interest above personal ambition.

He also explained that his absence from two recent ADC stakeholders’ meetings was due to unavoidable personal commitments, adding that he had formally communicated his apologies to the party leadership.

The former governor assured supporters that any final decision regarding his political direction would be officially communicated at the appropriate time.
