Zulum Warns Baga Communities Against Collusion with Boko Haram

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has issued a strong warning to farming and fishing communities in Baga, cautioning them against any form of collaboration with Boko Haram insurgents.

The governor delivered this warning on Wednesday while addressing residents at the palace of the District Head in Baga town. He expressed condolences over the recent tragic incident in Dumba community but stressed the need for strict adherence to military regulations to maintain security in the area.

“I urge the people of Baga and surrounding communities to conduct their farming activities only within areas approved by the military. While we encourage agricultural efforts, our people must remain law-abiding and follow the rules set by the Nigerian military and the Borno State government,” Zulum stated.

The governor condemned collusion with insurgents, describing it as “unacceptable” and a threat to the region’s stability.

During his visit, Zulum also inspected a 2,000-hectare solar-powered surface irrigation system in Mile 3, used for cultivating wheat and cassava. He highlighted the project as a milestone in advancing food security in Borno State and across Nigeria.

“This irrigation scheme is a game-changer in boosting agricultural production and ensuring food sufficiency. Similar projects have been launched in Damasak, Ngala, and other parts of the state,” he said.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to enhancing agriculture as a tool for economic growth and stability in the region.
