Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Monday that U.S. tariffs on Canada will be suspended for 30 days following a call with President Donald Trump. During the conversation, Trudeau committed to implementing stricter border measures to curb migrant crossings and the flow of illicit drugs.
“I just had a good call with President Trump,” Trudeau wrote on X. He added that Canada would deploy nearly 10,000 frontline officers to bolster border security, designate drug cartels as terrorist organizations, appoint a “Fentanyl Czar,” and intensify efforts against money laundering.
