Security forces have foiled a planned retaliatory attack in Plateau State, preventing what authorities say could have triggered another wave of violence following the rustling of livestock in Mangu Local Government Area.
The operation was carried out by troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), who acted on credible intelligence about the movement of armed men allegedly preparing to launch a reprisal attack.
The troops were deployed to Banasu High Ground after reports of gunfire in the area.
On arrival, they came under attack from suspected armed assailants, leading to a gun battle.
The attackers were eventually forced to retreat into the surrounding hills after encountering superior firepower from the troops, effectively frustrating the planned assault.
Reacting to the operation, the Media Information Officer of Operation Enduring Peace, Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, said the timely intervention prevented further escalation and helped restore calm to the affected community.
He reaffirmed the military’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-led operations aimed at tackling criminal activities and safeguarding lives and property across Plateau State.
The military also urged residents to remain law-abiding and continue supporting security agencies with credible information to enhance efforts toward maintaining lasting peace in the state. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
