Former Kaduna Central Senatorial District lawmaker, Shehu Sani, has explained why he left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to rejoin the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The human rights activist made this revelation during an interview on Channels Television’s Hard Copy on Friday.

Shehu Sani’s Political Journey

Sani, a founding member of APC in Kaduna State, exited the party in October 2018 following disputes over the party’s primaries. He later joined PDP, contested for a Senate seat, but lost the 2019 election to the current Kaduna Governor, Uba Sani.

On February 16, 2025, Sani officially returned to APC alongside several PDP and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) members in Kaduna.

Reason for Rejoining APC

During the interview, Sani attributed his return to the reconciliation efforts led by the Kaduna State Governor, stating that the political atmosphere had changed.

“A circumstance led to our mass exit from APC sometime in 2018, and that circumstance has changed, and then we rejoined the APC in Kaduna State,” Sani stated.

He also mentioned that his fallout with former Governor Nasir El-Rufai was due to political, personal, and state-related disagreements.

“We parted ways over differences that are both political, personal and also issues that affect the state, and for that reason, we had to evict ourselves out of the party,” he added.

According to Sani, Governor Uba Sani initiated peace talks, which ultimately convinced him to return.

“A governor who has been making consultations, building bridges across the state and then we also met and agreed that we should return to the party that we founded in Kaduna State.”

Political Implications

Shehu Sani’s return to APC is expected to reshape the political dynamics in Kaduna State, strengthening the ruling party ahead of future elections. His comeback also signals a new phase of political reconciliation within the state’s APC structure.
