The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has assured that all corps members will begin receiving their new monthly allowance of N77,000 starting March 2025.
This confirmation comes six months after the Federal Government pledged to increase the NYSC allowance from N33,000 to N77,000, following the enactment of the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024.
Federal Government’s Commitment to Corps Members’ Welfare
The approval for the new allowance was detailed in a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission, dated September 25, 2024, and signed by its Chairman, Ekpo Nta.
In a statement, Acting Director of Information and Public Relations for NYSC, Caroline Embu, emphasized the government’s commitment to corps members’ welfare, assuring that their well-being remains a top priority.
She noted that NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, made the announcement on Thursday while addressing corps members at the Wuse and Garki NYSC Zonal Offices in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
“With effect from March, you are going to receive the sum of Seventy-Seven Thousand Naira as your monthly allowance.
NYSC is good at record-keeping, and I can assure you that your money will be paid. The nation and the scheme appreciate you,” he said.
NYSC’s Role in National Development
General Nafiu thanked corps members for their selfless service to the nation and urged them to remain calm, dedicated, and disciplined.
He praised the vision of NYSC’s founding fathers, emphasizing that the scheme plays a crucial role in:
- Building bridges across different ethnic groups
- Promoting cultural exchange among Nigerian youths
- Fostering patriotism, discipline, and leadership skills
“NYSC is a beautiful scheme that exposes graduate youths to different cultural values beyond their places of birth,” he added.
He further assured that NYSC management would continue to instill core values such as teamwork, good morals, and leadership qualities in every batch of corps members.
