Kebbi Police: ‘Sai Malam’ Not Officially Declared a Terrorist Group

The Kebbi State Police Command has clarified that the group known as “Sai Malam” has not been officially declared a terrorist organisation under Nigerian law, despite reports alleging its resurgence in parts of the state.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, the command said it is aware of reports linking the group to activities in Argungu Local Government Area and has commenced investigations to verify the claims through intelligence gathering and other security measures.

The police noted that while several suspects were arrested and prosecuted earlier this year in connection with alleged criminal activities in Zuru, the arrests do not amount to an official terrorist designation for the group. Items reportedly recovered from the suspects included suspected counterfeit currencies and alleged ritual-related materials.

The command urged residents to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of causing unnecessary panic or undermining ongoing security operations. It also encouraged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies by reporting suspicious activities through the appropriate channels.

Police assured residents that they remain committed to protecting lives and property and will continue to take lawful action against individuals involved in criminal activities as investigations continue. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
