A fuel tanker exploded in Kontagora, Niger State, on Sunday, causing panic among residents and motorists in the area.
The incident, which occurred near AA Rano, opposite Kontagora General Hospital, fortunately resulted in no casualties.
Eyewitnesses reported that the tanker suddenly erupted in flames, sending thick black smoke into the sky. Firefighters and emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures. Despite the intensity of the fire, only the tanker was destroyed.
Hussaini Ibrahim, Director of Information at the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), assured the public that the situation was under control. Speaking to Channels Television, he confirmed that no lives were lost and no property was damaged apart from the burnt tanker.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the explosion, though preliminary reports suggest a mechanical fault or leakage may have triggered the incident.
