Newcastle United’s manager, Eddie Howe, has been diagnosed with pneumonia, forcing him to miss the club’s next two Premier League fixtures. The 47-year-old coach was admitted to the hospital on Friday after experiencing illness for several days. Despite his hospitalization, Howe managed to watch his team’s impressive 4-1 victory over Manchester United from his hospital bed.

The Magpies’ official statement confirmed that Howe will miss Wednesday’s home match against Crystal Palace and Saturday’s away trip to Aston Villa. Assistant managers Jason Tindall and Graeme Jones will take charge in his absence.

“Newcastle United can announce that Eddie Howe is recovering in hospital after being diagnosed with pneumonia,” the club stated. “The club continues to extend its best wishes and support to Eddie and his family as he continues his recovery.”

Following the win against United, which propelled Newcastle back into the top four, Howe expressed his gratitude for the support he had received. He thanked the football community for their warm wishes, saying, “A huge thank you to everyone connected with Newcastle United and the wider football community for your messages and warm wishes. They have meant a lot to me and my family.”

Newcastle’s victory against Manchester United moved them up to fourth place, and they could climb to third if they avoid defeat against Crystal Palace at St James’ Park on Wednesday.
