In a major political realignment ahead of future elections, six members of the House of Representatives from Delta State have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Additionally, two lawmakers from the Labour Party (LP) announced their defection to the PDP.
The defection notices were formally read by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas during Tuesday’s plenary session at the National Assembly.
Delta State Lawmakers Dump PDP for APC
Those who switched from PDP to APC include:
- Victor Nwokolo, representing Ika North East/Ika South Federal Constituency
- Julius Pondi, representing Burutu Federal Constituency
- Thomas Ereyitomi, representing Warri North/Warri South/Warri West Federal Constituency
- Nicholas Mutu, representing Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency
- Ukodhiko Jonathan, representing Isoko North/Isoko South
- Ezechi Nnamdi, a first-term lawmaker representing Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency
Labour Party Reps Move To PDP
Two members from the Labour Party also defected—this time to the PDP:
- Obetta Chidi, representing Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency in Enugu
- Dennis Agbo, representing Igbo-Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency
The wave of defections comes amid growing political tension and realignments across party lines, particularly in the South-South and South-East regions.
This development adds to the ongoing political drama in Delta State, where PDP’s dominance appears to be weakening. Political analysts suggest the APC may be consolidating its influence ahead of the next general elections
