Contractors handling various federal government-funded capital projects have called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the delayed payments for completed projects, expressing concerns over the financial strain it has caused.
Recently, it was reported that the federal government released N200 billion for payments to contractors managing different projects across the country.
However, the contractors claim they have yet to receive the funds despite being issued payment vouchers weeks ago. They also noted that there were issues with cash-backing, which prevented them from accessing the money.
Some contractors expressed concerns that the delays might be connected to the centralization of payment procedures by the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF).
One of the contractors, Elegbeleye Taiwo Ibrahim Bamisaye, speaking to reporters in Abuja, described the situation as dire:

“The resultant effect on us is that we keep on servicing the interests on the loans and the bonds we entered into, to execute and complete these projects. Our workers cannot get their salaries, and meeting the needs of our families is becoming more difficult by the day,” Bamisaye said.
He called on President Tinubu to intervene swiftly, emphasizing that such delays in budget implementation were unprecedented.
In response to the prolonged wait, it was gathered that the contractors are planning to embark on a mass protest to press for the release of their payments.
They urged the federal government to act promptly to alleviate the financial burden and prevent disruptions to ongoing projects.
