The Federal Government has officially launched the Renewed Hope Housing Scheme in Calabar, Cross River State, an ambitious project driven by the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to provide sustainable and affordable housing for Nigerians. This marks another concrete step in the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at reducing the national housing deficit and improving the quality of life across the country.
The Cross River State Government supported the initiative by donating 25 acres of land in the Adiabo community of Odukpani Local Government Area. During the project’s flag-off, it was revealed that letters of award have been issued to contractors, who are expected to commence mobilization within two to three weeks once federal funding is released. The scheme is designed to benefit civil servants, low-income earners, and other Nigerians in need of dignified housing.
The housing estate will be developed in two phases with four contractors handling essential infrastructure such as roads, electricity, and water, while another four firms will construct affordable and expandable housing units. During a courtesy visit to the Obong of Calabar, representatives of the federal government reaffirmed that the project aligns with President Tinubu’s vision of inclusive development and socioeconomic upliftment under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Obong of Calabar, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V, commended both federal and state governments for the collaboration that made the project possible. He expressed optimism that the housing project would benefit the people of Cross River and serve as a model for similar developments across the country. With the project now underway, the Renewed Hope Housing Scheme stands as a testament to President Tinubu’s commitment to tangible, people-centered governance.
