Suspected Lakurawa Bandits Kill Three Police Officers in Kebbi State

Suspected Lakurawa bandits launched a deadly ambush along the Zogirma–Tilli Road in Bunza Local Government Area of Kebbi State, targeting commuters in what appeared to be a kidnapping attempt.

According to the Kebbi State Police Command, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Zogirma swiftly mobilised a response team, with reinforcement from the No. 36 Police Mobile Force Squadron, Birnin Kebbi.

A fierce gun battle followed between the security operatives and the armed bandits, leading to the tragic death of three police officers.

In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the incident, noting that several bandits were neutralised in the exchange of gunfire.

Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, praised the “bravery, resilience, and ultimate sacrifice” of the officers who died in the line of duty.

Meanwhile, Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris confirmed the incident and expressed his condolences. He also announced the postponement of a scheduled All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders’ meeting in Birnin Kebbi in light of the tragedy.

Nigerian Army Repels Coordinated Bandit Attack in Zuru

In a separate development, the 223 Light Battalion of the Nigerian Army, Zuru, repelled a large-scale attack by over 400 armed bandits on Ribah town in the Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The assault, which occurred on Wednesday, triggered a heavy gunfight in which many of the bandits were reportedly killed. While some of the attackers retrieved the bodies of their fallen comrades, several corpses and a cache of weapons were left behind.

Confirming the event in Birnin Kebbi, Alhaji AbdulRahman Zagga, Director of Security in the Cabinet Office, commended the Army for its quick response. He said the military’s superior combat skills and tactical advantage were key in reversing what initially appeared to be an overwhelming threat.

“Although the attackers initially posed a serious threat due to their large numbers, the superior combat skills and determination of the troops shifted the momentum in favor of the military,” he said.
