PDP Mocks Atiku’s Exit as Self Serving, APC Labels It ‘Ambition Without Principle’

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed Atiku Abubakar’s latest exit from the party as a self serving and familiar pattern, insisting it poses no threat to its stability. Acting PDP Chairman Iliya Damagum mocked the move, saying it was neither surprising nor significant, as Atiku has a long history of jumping in and out of the party. “This is not the first time. He may still return,” Damagum noted.

Echoing similar sentiments, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and other PDP stakeholders emphasized that the party is built on lasting structures and ideals that transcend any individual. “PDP is bigger than any single person. The foundation of the party remains intact,” Makinde declared.

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has also reacted, branding Atiku’s move as a desperate political gamble. APC Lagos spokesman Seye Oladejo described the former Vice President’s decision as “ambition without principle,” asserting that it reflects a lack of ideological conviction. According to the ruling party, Atiku’s defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is unlikely to shift the dynamics of the 2027 elections.

Both parties agree on one thing: Atiku Abubakar’s latest political move is more about personal ambition than national interest.
