Ozzy Osbourne, the iconic frontman of Black Sabbath and one of heavy metal’s most enduring figures, has died at the age of 76. The singer passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, surrounded by family, just over two weeks after his emotional final performance in Birmingham, England.

Known globally as the “Prince of Darkness,” Osbourne’s legacy stretched far beyond music, blending outrageous on-stage antics with raw, era-defining sound. From biting the head off a bat in 1982 to pioneering heavy metal with Black Sabbath’s groundbreaking 1970 debut, Osbourne’s persona and sound influenced generations of rock artists.

Tributes have poured in from across the music world. Elton John hailed him as a “trailblazer” and “a true legend,” while Rolling Stone’s Ronnie Wood called his death “very sad.” Osbourne’s decades-long career included over 75 million records sold, two Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductions — with Black Sabbath and as a solo artist — and a reinvention in the 2000s through the hit reality show The Osbournes.

Despite battling Parkinson’s disease and undergoing multiple surgeries, Osbourne took his final bow in front of 40,000 fans at Villa Park on July 5, 2025, joined by his original Black Sabbath bandmates. Closing with “Paranoid,” he told fans, “Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.” His death marks the end of an era in rock music — loud, chaotic, and unforgettable.
