Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for fulfilling the promises he made to northern Nigeria during the 2023 election campaign, particularly in the areas of security, infrastructure, education, and economic inclusion.
Speaking at the opening of a two-day government-citizen engagement forum organised by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation in Kaduna, Governor Sani recounted the dire security situation he inherited in 2023, with communities plagued by banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, and violent crime. He noted that President Tinubu’s support, along with the coordination of national security agencies, has helped turn the tide, especially along the once-feared Kaduna-Abuja expressway, and in troubled areas like Chikun, Birnin Gwari, and Igabi.
“The Abuja-Kaduna highway had become a corridor of dread,” he said, citing the 2022 train attack as a turning point in the state’s security crisis. Sani praised the federal government’s decisive backing in dismantling criminal enclaves, reopening long-abandoned markets, and restoring life to previously deserted towns. He emphasized that insecurity in the region stems not only from a lack of military response, but from systemic issues such as exclusion, poverty, and policy neglect. “By the time we took office in May 2023, over 65% of the population in the North-West was financially excluded,” he said, stressing the need for inclusive governance as a foundation for lasting peace.
