President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on young Nigerians in the digital media space to use their platforms responsibly by promoting unity, verifying information before sharing, and driving national development through innovation and job creation.
Speaking at the Progressives Digital Media Summit in Abuja, themed “Unveiling the Critical Role of New Media in National Development,” President Tinubu applauded the creativity and resilience of Nigeria’s youth, urging them to build businesses, create uplifting content, and contribute to a stronger, more united nation.
He said digital media is now a central driver of economic growth, civic engagement, and social transformation, adding that his administration is committed to supporting innovation through policies and the National Digital Innovation Fund.
Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, described digital media practitioners as the vanguard of a reborn Nigeria, while Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, warned against misinformation, deepfakes, and the chaotic nature of unregulated social media platforms.
Summit convener and Special Assistant on New Media, Segun Dada, emphasised the need to harness digital media’s power for national good while managing the risks to social cohesion and data privacy.
