The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has directed regional directors of the Federal Ministry of Works to compile an extensive list of both inherited and new road projects across the country. This move aims to demonstrate the significant infrastructure progress under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, with a special focus on the South East, which has seen a massive allocation of N445.8bn for the Cross River-Ebonyi-Benue-Kogi-Nasarawa-Abuja superhighway.
Speaking to the press, Umahi emphasized that the administration’s commitment to fair distribution of infrastructure across all regions reflects President Tinubu’s dedication to uniting Nigerians and restoring hope to the nation. “I have directed all the regional directors of the Federal Ministry of Works to visit sites across the country and compile both inherited and new projects so that Nigerians can see the magnitude of work being done,” Umahi stated.
He further noted that the South East had been allocated significant resources for road projects, including a N108 billion payment already made towards the superhighway. Umahi also refuted claims suggesting the region had been ignored in the distribution of road projects. “A misleading report tried to distort the facts. What occurred during the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on July 31, 2025, was a review of the Trans-Sahara Section 1 (Ebonyi State to Benue border) for N445.8 billion, not the Oyo-Benue Border road as misrepresented,” he clarified.
Umahi pointed out that under President Tinubu’s leadership, 90% of abandoned projects, some dating back to 2013, have now been revived. He highlighted key infrastructure projects in the South East, such as the Second Niger Bridge access roads and major highways like the Enugu–Port Harcourt Road, which spans multiple states. “These projects show that the government is committed to bringing development to all regions, regardless of voting preferences,” Umahi affirmed.
In his call to the South East region, Umahi urged the people to support President Tinubu, citing the President’s fairness and commitment to regional development. “We must not be misled again. Mr. President has shown great love for the South East, and we must ensure that he receives 90% of our votes to further cement this partnership. It’s time to rise above misinformation and embrace the change.”
Umahi’s statements come at a time when various reports have suggested the South East is not receiving its fair share of development projects, a claim he strongly contested with facts and figures to support his claims.
