The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated ₦1 billion to support victims of the devastating floods in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State.

The disaster, which occurred between May 28 and 29, 2025, led to the destruction of over 4,000 houses, the deaths of more than 500 people, and the displacement of thousands. Over 600 people are still missing, making it one of the worst natural disasters in recent years.

During her visit to Niger State, the First Lady met with affected families and donated the funds as part of her humanitarian outreach. The donation is aimed at providing shelter, food, medical aid, and long-term support for rebuilding the lives of flood victims.

She also launched the Renewed Hope Initiative Economic Empowerment Programme in partnership with the Tony Elumelu Foundation, focused on empowering women and small businesses.

Her visit comes after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved ₦2 billion in emergency support, along with 20 truckloads of food supplies to aid flood survivors. The Niger State Government had also earlier contributed ₦1 billion and provided grains to affected communities.

The First Lady’s action is seen as a major boost to the Federal Government’s efforts to bring relief, rebuild homes, and restore hope to the people of Mokwa and surrounding areas.
