
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a three-day weather warning covering Monday to Wednesday (August 11 to 13, 2025), forecasting widespread heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and heightened flood risk across the country.
The agency cautioned that the adverse weather could disrupt transportation, damage infrastructure, and threaten lives and livelihoods if precautionary measures are not taken.
Regional Forecasts
Northern Region
Morning thunderstorms are expected today in Sokoto, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba, followed by moderate rainfall later in Bauchi, Borno, Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa, Taraba, and Adamawa. Katsina, Kebbi, Zamfara, and Sokoto face high flood risk.
Central Region
Light rain is expected over parts of Niger State in the morning, with thunderstorms and light rain extending into the FCT, Plateau, Nasarawa, Benue, and Kogi by afternoon. Flood-prone areas include Plateau, Nasarawa, and Niger.
Southern Region
Cloudy skies with intermittent light rain will dominate in Ebonyi, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom early in the day. Moderate rainfall is forecast later in Enugu, Edo, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Osun, Abia, Cross River, Rivers, Delta, and Akwa Ibom. Delta, Imo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom are at significant flood risk.
The pattern is expected to persist through Tuesday and Wednesday, with northern states experiencing continuous thunderstorms, central states having intermittent storms, and southern states facing prolonged rainfall.
