President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived in Tokyo, Japan, early Tuesday to participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) scheduled for August 20–22 at the Pacifico Yokohama. The President’s aircraft touched down at 00:50 am local time at the Haneda International Airport, where he was received by Ambassador Hideo Matsubara, Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, and senior officials of the Nigerian Embassy in Japan.

The triennial summit, initiated by the Japanese government and co-hosted by the United Nations, UNDP, African Union Commission, and World Bank, serves as a major platform for strengthening ties between Japan and Africa. The last edition was hosted in Tunisia in August 2022.

This year’s summit, themed “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa,” will spotlight economic transformation, private sector investment, institutional reforms, and sustainable development across Africa. President Tinubu is also expected to hold bilateral meetings and high-level engagements with Japanese business leaders exploring investments in Nigeria.
