The Nigerian Navy has intercepted a suspected member of a vehicle theft syndicate allegedly responsible for stealing more than 50 vehicles across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The suspect was arrested during an intelligence-led operation conducted by personnel of the Naval Base Abuja while attempting to leave the FCT. The operation was carried out as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security and combat organised crime in the nation’s capital.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly posed as an Inspector of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) to facilitate the syndicate’s activities and evade detection. He reportedly confessed to being a member of the criminal network during interrogation.
According to the Nigerian Navy, the syndicate specialised in stealing vehicles from different parts of Abuja before transporting them to other states, where they were allegedly sold through a network of accomplices.
Confirming the development, the Director of Naval Information, Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, said the arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the fight against organised vehicle theft. He added that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the syndicate and recover more stolen vehicles.
The Nigerian Navy reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with other security agencies to enhance public safety and tackle criminal activities across the country. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
