The Federal Government has called on the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) to ensure thorough due diligence in designing a workable and acceptable revenue allocation formula for Nigeria. Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, made the charge while receiving a delegation from RMAFC led by its Chairman, Dr. Mohammed Bello Shehu, in Abuja.
Akume expressed confidence in the Commission’s capacity to deliver on its mandate, assuring that his office would provide the necessary support for the realisation of the project. He stressed the need for the new formula to prioritise irreducible minimum allocations to critical ministries such as Defence, given their central role in maintaining peace and safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
In response, Dr. Shehu revealed that the Commission is already working on a new revenue allocation formula. He noted that a draft copy will soon be forwarded to the SGF for review and input before submission to the National Assembly for final approval.
