The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has announced that effective August 29, 2025, all shipments from Nigeria to the United States of America will attract a $80 (or Naira equivalent) customs duty.

The new directive applies to goods and parcels being exported to the U.S. as part of updated bilateral shipping and customs arrangements. NIPOST said the measure is aimed at streamlining clearance procedures and ensuring compliance with international trade regulations.

This latest development is expected to have a significant impact on businesses and individuals involved in cross-border trade, particularly SMEs and online vendors who rely heavily on shipping to U.S.-based customers.
