The Israeli military has confirmed carrying out an assassination attempt on Hamas leaders in Qatar’s capital, Doha, where multiple explosions were reported late Monday. Senior Hamas member Suhail al-Hindi told Al Jazeera that the group’s leadership survived the strike, which sources said occurred during a meeting on a U.S.-backed ceasefire proposal for Gaza.

Qatar has strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a “cowardly” act and a blatant violation of international law. The Gulf state, which has been playing a key role in mediation efforts, said the strike undermines diplomatic channels at a critical moment in ceasefire negotiations.

Meanwhile, in Gaza, at least 39 people were killed today by Israeli forces, according to medical sources. Since October 2023, Israel’s war on Gaza has left at least 64,605 people dead and 163,319 wounded, with thousands more still buried under rubble. By contrast, Israel says 1,139 people were killed in the October 7 attacks, during which around 200 others were taken captive.
