On Tuesday, severe flooding in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, led to a prison break at the city’s Custodial facility, with an unconfirmed number of inmates escaping.

The flooding has caused significant damage to the prison, breaching security barriers and compromising structural integrity, which allowed the inmates to escape.

Authorities have confirmed that the escapees are deemed highly dangerous and may be armed, raising concerns about public safety in a region already dealing with insurgency.

A manhunt is currently in progress to locate and recapture the escaped inmates, with law enforcement agencies deploying additional resources to address the situation.
