AFCON Qualifier: Dominant Eagles Held to Disappointing Draw by Rwanda

Rwanda held Nigeria’s Super Eagles to a frustrating 0-0 draw in their second match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Despite dominating much of the game, the Eagles were unable to break through the disciplined Rwandan defense. Expectations were high for Nigeria to secure a victory and maintain their perfect record in the qualifiers following their convincing 3-0 win over Benin Republic on Saturday.

Coach Augustine Eguavoen made only one change from the previous match, substituting Alex Iwobi for Fisayo Dele-Bashiru in the starting lineup, while Victor Osimhen started on the bench, as he did against Benin.

Nigeria took early control of the game, with Ademola Lookman, the standout performer, causing problems for the Amavubi defense. Lookman appeared to have scored in the 22nd minute, but the goal was ruled offside by the referee—a decision that many Nigerian fans contested
