An Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has sentenced two men to death by hanging after finding them guilty of kidnapping a staff member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The convicts, Ibrahim Abubakar and Abdullahi Abubakar, were prosecuted for the abduction of Omoboade Adesina, an NYSC staff member, who was kidnapped on April 22, 2022. A third defendant, Usman Abubakar, was discharged and acquitted after the court held that there was insufficient evidence linking him to the crime.
Delivering judgment, the Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Justice Lekan Ogunmoye, ruled that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and consequently sentenced the two convicts to death by hanging.
The court also commended investigators of the Department of State Services (DSS) for their role in securing the conviction, citing the identification parade and analysis of call data records as critical evidence that linked the defendants to the offence.
The judgment underscores ongoing efforts by security agencies and the judiciary to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes, as authorities continue to intensify measures aimed at improving public safety and ensuring justice for victims. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
