The Kaduna State Government has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with StarAgri West Africa Ltd for a $122 million investment aimed at transforming the state’s agricultural sector.
Under the Kaduna Agri-Market System Initiative, the deal will see the refurbishment of existing silos, construction of new warehouses, and establishment of export centres to strengthen storage and market infrastructure. The project is expected to reduce post-harvest losses, enhance access to modern storage systems, and introduce warehouse receipt financing to support farmers.
Governor Uba Sani described the agreement as a strategic step toward revolutionizing agriculture in Kaduna, noting that it will improve food security, empower farmers, and attract further private sector investment.
The initiative complements the state’s ongoing agricultural empowerment programme, which includes distribution of farm inputs, water pumps, and mechanized equipment to cooperatives, alongside a N74 billion budget allocation to the sector for 2025.
Officials say the partnership will create thousands of jobs, boost farmer incomes, and position Kaduna as a leading hub for agribusiness in Nigeria.
