President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Abuja after attending the Aqaba Process Heads of State and Government Summit held in Rome, Italy.
The Aqaba Process, initiated in 2015 by King Abdullah II of Jordan and co-chaired by the Italian government, is designed to promote global collaboration in combating terrorism and violent extremism, with a particular focus on the West African region.
The summit, hosted at the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome, brought together world leaders including King Abdullah II of Jordan, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and the Presidents of Nigeria, Chad, Paraguay, Sierra Leone, and Togo.
During the event, President Tinubu held key bilateral meetings with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, U.S. President Donald Trump’s Senior Adviser on Arab and African Affairs, Massad Boulos, and the Vatican’s Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral ties, advancing counterterrorism cooperation, and fostering interfaith harmony in Nigeria.
Since its establishment, the Aqaba Process has convened 33 meetings, driving initiatives based on prevention, coordination, and bridging operational gaps in global counterterrorism efforts.
