The Chief Judge of Kwara State, Justice Adelodun Adebara, has freed three inmates from the Custodial Centres in Ilorin and Mandala. This action followed his review of the case files during a routine visit to the facilities.
Justice Adebara expressed concern over the overcrowding of the Custodial Centres in the state. He explained that his constitutional powers allow him to conduct jail delivery, which involves reviewing long-pending cases, addressing the situations of inmates with terminal illnesses, and releasing those convicted of minor offenses that could be resolved through community service.
He pledged to make these visits for jail delivery a regular practice.
The Chief Judge advised the released inmates to avoid returning to crime and thanked the Correctional Service for its support during the process. The state’s Controller of Correctional Centres, Danmairomu Ayodeji, praised the Chief Judge and his team for their visit and urged the freed inmates to uphold good behavior and reintegrate into society positively.
