The Kogi State Government has handed over the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) project to the newly established Ministry of Livestock Development, moving it from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.

The handover, which took place during a meeting of the Kogi L-PRES State Steering Committee in Lokoja, aims to give greater focus to livestock production, animal health, and value chain development.

Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Timothy Ojomah, said the move aligns with the federal government’s agenda to modernize livestock farming and improve coordination across the sector.

Receiving the project, Dr. Olufemi Bolarin, Commissioner for Livestock Development, commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his foresight, pledging to strengthen partnerships and position Kogi as a model for livestock development.

The World Bank–assisted L-PRES project seeks to boost livestock productivity, resilience, and commercialization. Kogi has already recorded progress through farmer training, market development, and infrastructure support.

With the handover completed, the Ministry of Livestock Development will now oversee all L-PRES activities in the state to enhance food security and rural livelihoods.
