A special team of Nigerian Army personnel has raided a property linked to former Governor of Bayelsa State and ex-Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, in connection with an alleged coup plot currently under investigation by the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA). Multiple security sources confirmed to Jocomms on Tuesday that the operation was carried out in Abuja by a unit acting on intelligence linking the former South-South governor to secret meetings with some detained military officers.
According to insider accounts, the raid was executed by a “special military team” following reports that Sylva had fled the country. His brother, identified as Paga, was reportedly taken into custody during the operation, which also extended to another property in Bayelsa. Security sources described the raid as “targeted and intelligence-driven,” insisting it was part of a broader investigation into connections between certain political figures and detained military personnel accused of involvement in the alleged coup plot.
The development comes amid growing tension within the armed forces after the detention of at least 16 senior military officers from the Army, Navy, and Air Force by the DIA under undisclosed conditions for more than three weeks. As questions mount over the political undertones surrounding the arrests and the role of the DIA in the investigation, many are asking—what deeper forces might be at play behind this unfolding saga?
