The Chairman of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, has credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration with playing a decisive role in enabling the airline to reduce flight fares on the Nigeria–London route to as low as $3,000 for business class tickets.
Speaking in a recent interview, Onyema said the support of the Federal Government was crucial in breaking long-standing barriers that had hindered Nigerian airlines from competing effectively on international routes.
According to him, both President Tinubu and the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, stood firmly by Air Peace during its negotiations with UK aviation authorities, ensuring that the airline received fair treatment and operational rights.
“Without the backing of the Tinubu administration, Air Peace would have struggled to enter the London route,” Onyema stated. “The government made it clear that any attempt to frustrate a Nigerian carrier would attract consequences. That bold stance changed everything.”
Onyema noted that the administration’s intervention disrupted the long-standing dominance of foreign airlines on the lucrative Nigeria–UK route, paving the way for fair competition and lower fares for Nigerian travelers.
He also clarified that some earlier media reports had misrepresented his comments, suggesting that the British government alone facilitated Air Peace’s entry. He reiterated that the Nigerian government’s commitment was pivotal to achieving the milestone.
Since launching its London operations, Air Peace has introduced aggressive fare reductions, with economy-class tickets dropping significantly and premium fares now averaging $3,000 a sharp contrast to the much higher rates previously charged by foreign carriers.
Aviation industry observers have welcomed Air Peace’s expansion, describing it as a turning point that could permanently reshape pricing structures on the Nigeria–UK route and strengthen Nigeria’s presence in international aviation. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
