Dangote Refinery Hits 70 Million Litres Daily Output, Surpasses Nigeria’s Fuel Demand

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reached a historic production milestone, now refining 70 million litres of petrol per day — a volume that surpasses Nigeria’s total domestic fuel requirement. The achievement marks a major breakthrough for Africa’s largest refinery and a potential turning point in the country’s decades-long dependence on imported petroleum products. Industry analysts say the milestone could stabilize fuel supply, strengthen the naira, and position Nigeria as a net exporter of refined products across West and Central Africa.

Jocomms Correspondent reports that the 650,000 barrels-per-day facility, located in Lekki, Lagos, has been ramping up operations since commencing full production earlier this year. According to officials within the Dangote Group, the refinery’s current output not only meets national consumption levels but also provides room for exports to neighbouring countries, boosting Nigeria’s foreign exchange earnings. The refinery is expected to supply the Nigerian market with premium motor spirit (PMS), diesel, and aviation fuel at competitive prices while reducing logistics costs and refining bottlenecks.

Speaking on the new milestone, Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Industries Limited, reaffirmed his commitment to transforming Africa’s energy landscape through self-sufficiency and industrial innovation. He emphasized that the refinery’s success demonstrates what private investment can achieve with the right vision and determination. With Nigeria now refining more fuel than it consumes, could this milestone finally spell the end of the country’s recurring fuel scarcity crisis? Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
