Heavy Security Presence as New PDP Faction Takes Over National Headquarters

There was heavy security presence on Monday at the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja, following the emergence of a new faction within the party. The development comes as the former Vice Chairman, PDP North Central, Abdulrahman Mohammed, who leads the new faction, resumed at the Wadata Plaza headquarters as the acting National Chairman of the party.

Security operatives were stationed around the premises to maintain order and prevent any potential confrontation between loyalists of the opposing factions. The situation created tension at the party headquarters as staff and visitors were subjected to strict security checks before gaining entry.

The current National Chairman, Umar Damagun, along with the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, and other members of their faction, were noticeably absent from the headquarters during the takeover. Sources within the party described the development as part of a growing internal dispute over leadership and direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Party insiders say the new faction, under Abdulrahman Mohammed, has vowed to restore what it calls “true internal democracy and accountability” within the PDP. Meanwhile, efforts are reportedly ongoing among senior party stakeholders to resolve the leadership crisis and prevent further division within the opposition party.
