In a bold move to strengthen cooperation between the public and private sectors, the Federal Ministry of Finance has announced the establishment of a new initiative known as the “Government–Private Dialogue Series” (GPS Desk). The platform aims to foster sustained collaboration between government institutions and the business community to drive shared growth and national prosperity. This announcement followed the maiden edition of the Government–Private Sector (GPS) Dialogue Series held in Lagos, convened by the Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, under the theme “Finance and SME Growth Roundtable.”
Jocomms Correspondent reports that the groundbreaking forum brought together Southeast business leaders, captains of industry, federal agency heads, market leaders, and key Lagos State officials. Dr. Uzoka-Anite, in her remarks, reaffirmed the Renewed Hope Administration’s commitment to making government more “present, responsive, and accountable.” She emphasized that policies must not be made for the people but with them, describing the GPS Dialogue as a platform where entrepreneurs and innovators can directly influence national policy. “Government can design policy, businesses can activate productivity, and together, we can build prosperity,” she stated.
Also in attendance, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, commended the initiative, pledging full federal support and unveiling ongoing digital reforms such as the National Single Window Project to cut trade costs. The event featured interactive sessions where federal agencies presented single-digit loans and export finance options, while traders highlighted concerns on taxation and access to credit. Many business leaders hailed the dialogue as “the first genuine collaboration between government and traders in decades.” Could this signal a new era of partnership and trust between government and Nigeria’s private sector?
