Radda Launches Empowerment Scheme for 4,000 Irrigation Farmers in Katsina

The Katsina State Government has empowered 4,000 irrigation farmers with modern equipment and inputs to boost year-round food production and reduce dependence on rainfall.

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda said the initiative, part of the state’s agricultural transformation agenda, aims to enhance productivity and improve farmers’ livelihoods.

Beneficiaries received power tillers, solar-powered water pumps, and fertilisers for the 2024/2025 dry season farming.

“We want to make agriculture a profitable, all-year activity through mechanisation and sustainable irrigation,” Radda said.

Farmers welcomed the gesture, noting that solar-powered pumps have reduced their costs and improved output. However, they urged the government to ensure timely delivery of inputs in future seasons.

The programme is expected to strengthen food security, create rural jobs, and promote climate-smart agriculture across Katsina State. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
