President Tinubu Appoints Dr. John Nwabueze as Nigeria’s First Tax Ombudsman

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Dr. John Nwabueze as Nigeria’s first Tax Ombudsman, in accordance with the Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria (Establishment) Act, 2025. The appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to improving transparency, accountability, and fairness in the nation’s tax system.

Dr. Nwabueze, from Oshimili South Local Government Area of Delta State, is a distinguished tax and finance expert with extensive public and private sector experience. He has served as Managing Partner of a leading tax advisory firm, Technical Adviser to the Joint Senate Committees on the FCT and Finance, and Technical Adviser to the Chief Economic Adviser to former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

He holds a Doctor of Business Administration in Finance from Walden University, Minneapolis, a Master of Science in Accounting from Strayer University, Washington, D.C., and dual Bachelor’s degrees in Accounting and Mathematics from the University of Jos, Nigeria, reflecting his strong academic foundation and technical expertise in fiscal management.

President Tinubu expressed confidence in Dr. Nwabueze’s ability to discharge his duties with integrity, diligence, and professionalism.

The newly established Office of the Tax Ombudsman will serve as an independent body for resolving disputes between taxpayers and revenue authorities, ensuring fair treatment and protecting taxpayers from arbitrary or abusive practices by tax officials.
