Mikel Merino struck twice in the second half as Arsenal cruised to a 3-0 victory over Slavia Prague in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday — their fourth consecutive win in the competition.
The result extended the Premier League leaders’ winning streak to 10 matches across all competitions and secured an eighth straight clean sheet. Arsenal have now scored 11 goals and conceded none in the Champions League this season, sitting comfortably at the top of their group.
The night also produced a historic moment as 15-year-old Max Dowman became the youngest-ever player to appear in a Champions League match, coming on as a substitute in the 73rd minute.
Stand-in captain Bukayo Saka opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 32nd minute after Slavia captain Lukas Provod handled the ball while clearing a corner.
Just 30 seconds into the second half, Merino doubled the lead, volleying home from Leandro Trossard’s clever pass on a swift counterattack. The Spanish midfielder then sealed the win in the 68th minute, heading in Declan Rice’s precise cross past goalkeeper Jakub Markovic.
Manager Mikel Arteta made four changes from the side that defeated Burnley 2-0 at the weekend, but Arsenal remained dominant despite missing injured forwards Viktor Gyokeres, Kai Havertz, and Gabriel Martinelli.
Slavia Prague, who top the Czech league, were outclassed throughout the match and failed to register a single shot on target. Arsenal controlled possession and created numerous chances, with Saka testing Markovic several times before finally breaking the deadlock.
The defeat leaves Slavia with just two points from four games, while Arsenal continue their flawless run in Europe.
