Troops operating in Sokoto State have successfully recovered 45 stolen cows following a well-coordinated ambush on a suspected cattle-rustling gang in a forested area of the state.

According to military sources, the operation was launched after credible intelligence revealed that the rustlers were moving the stolen livestock through the Sokoto forest axis. Acting swiftly on the information, troops laid an ambush that resulted in the recovery of the animals and the disruption of the criminal network.

While details regarding arrests or casualties remain undisclosed, security officials confirmed that the ambush formed part of ongoing operations aimed at tackling banditry and cattle rustling in northwestern Nigeria.

Cattle rustling continues to pose a major security and economic challenge in the region, often leading to displacement and loss of livelihoods among rural communities. The military has intensified intelligence-led operations, combining ground patrols, surveillance, and ambush tactics to restore peace and protect local populations.

The recovered livestock have since been handed over to relevant authorities for proper identification and return to their rightful owners, while search efforts continue to apprehend fleeing suspects. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
