Wike: “You send soldiers to intimidate who?” — Tense Standoff as Soldiers Block Entry to Land

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike was involved in a heated exchange with soldiers who blocked his entry to a plot of land, telling the troops, “You send soldiers to intimidate who? We are all from this country. If not for the CDS who spoke to me now, you would have to kill everybody here. I’m not one of those that you can intimidate.” Witnesses say the drama unfolded after security operatives moved to prevent Wike and his aides from accessing the site, heightening tensions between the minister and military personnel.

Jocomms Correspondent reports that the confrontation briefly stalled planned activity at the location as onlookers gathered and security forces stood their ground. Sources on the ground told Jocomms the FCT Minister Wike accused the soldiers of acting to intimidate him and suggested intervention by senior defence channels helped defuse the standoff. Local reactions were swift, with critics calling the incident an alarming display of force and supporters insisting the governor has a right to visit the land in question.

As the episode reverberates across political and social media, questions about civilian access to land, the role of military personnel in non-combat settings, and the chain of command in such confrontations have resurfaced. Will this latest clash prompt clearer rules governing military involvement in civil disputes — or deepen rifts between elected officials and security agencies? Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
